From the first conversation with Howard and Carolynn, Deonne felt a profound connection to PeakU’s mission, aligning deeply with her own values. This initial spark solidified her commitment to becoming PeakU’s first board member, bringing her broad expertise to empower teens and young adults.
Deonne’s rich background in education and strategic development includes a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Idaho State University, a Master’s degree in Teaching At-Risk Students from Gonzaga University, and a PhD in Instructional Design from Utah State University. Her career is marked by a passion for creating inclusive and effective educational experiences. She has developed and facilitated impactful workshops and courses that closely align with PeakU’s goals.
Beyond her professional contributions, Deonne’s personal life is equally vibrant. She enjoys leading humanitarian expeditions for CHOICE Humanitarian, traveling, parenting her four incredible children, and finding serenity in yoga. Evenings often find her playing the piano or driving her Jeep with the top off, singing along to Diana Krall. Deonne brings her passion and joy for life into every endeavor.

Sidni L. Shorter is the President and CEO of the Utah Black Chamber of Commerce. She is also an entrepreneur, social entrepreneur, and venture capitalist. In her encore career, Dr. Shorter has played a pivotal role in revitalizing UBC, turning it into a widely admired Chamber of Commerce with domestic and international influence. Her innovative strategies and initiatives have substantially changed Utah’s economic environment, fostering a dynamic and inclusive business community that fuels economic growth.
Previously, Sidni was the owner and CEO of ExecuteNow!, a finance and accounting firm that focused on providing affordable services to non-profits and small—to mid-sized organizations while prioritizing client satisfaction. She played a significant role in creating and implementing programs for national clients to address the disparity in access to affordable capital and investments for minority and women-led businesses.
As a servant leader, Sidni prioritizes building relationships and fostering genuine client engagement. She is a social entrepreneur and a passionate advocate for change, dedicating her career to helping entrepreneurs and business leaders access affordable capital to promote growth, progress, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Sidni holds a Doctorate in Biblical Psychology, a Master’s in Theology, and two Bachelor’s degrees in General Studies (with a concentration in Behavioral Science and Theology). She is also a Licensed Christian Therapist. Sidni believes that great leaders are continual learners and exceptional listeners. Sidni is married to Dr. John F. Shorter; they have 2 adult sons and are the proud grandparents of one granddaughter.
